The future promises another blend of technology and vision (like Google Design Glass) and other amazing new optical technologies in the near future.

Google [x] launched Project Glass to create a special kind of eye-wear that takes technology away from the road. "To help users discover and share the world, place them now." This video, released by Google on Wednesday, shows possible applications of the Glass project. A man roams the streets of New York, communicates with friends, looks at maps, information and photos. The video conversation with the girl ends with him as the sun sets over the city. All of this can be seen through eyeglasses with augmented reality.

Bionic Vision

 Australia is a national consortium of scientists working together to develop a bionic eye that can help people with specific vision problems to restore their vision. The goal is to restore sight to the blind and visually impaired. This technology is originally intended for patients with pigmented retinal degeneration and age-related macular degeneration. With time and further research, it is possible that this technology can help patients with other vision problems. The bionic vision system consists of a camera, which is attached to a pair of glasses and transmits the radio-frequency radio signals to the microprocessor implanted in the retina. The electrodes of the implanted system convert these signals into electrical impulses to stimulate the retinal cells connected to the optic nerve. These pulses are then transmitted along the optic nerve to the video processing centers of the brain, where they are interpreted as an image.

Use of Technology


To use this technology, patients must have a functional visual pathway from the retina to the brain along the optic nerve and some intact retinal cells. Two technologies to be solved are therefore pigmented degeneration of the retina and age-related macular degeneration.

Check the settings

To make sure, the quickest way is to check the "About Phone" section in Preferences. Open the Settings app, scroll to Phone, and scroll until the model name appears. The 2015 model is acknowledge to "Galaxy J7", the 2016 model will be called "Galaxy J7 (2016)". After that, the situation becomes more and more complicated because the Galaxy J7 phone book includes J7 Prime, J7 Max, J7 Pro and J7 Next.

Look back
A good way to make a difference without having to turn on the phone is to look back. From left to right, we have 2015 white, 2016 gold and 2017 pink.

In the 2015 version, we can see the flash on the left of the camera and on the right a narrow speaker grid.
